(Lest We Forget Orland Park Salutes Its Veterans)

 Senator John Humphrey’s brother Tom was killed at the battle of Ware Bottom Church, Virginia on May 20, 1864.

The Senator’s half brother Matthew Wells was wounded at Drewry’s Bluff ,Virginia. He was hit in the arm and taken prisoner. He was discharged May 30, 1865 and returned to Orland.

Tom was married and his wife wore a black shroud for a year after his death.
